Singapore Colocation, Philippines Colocation, Malaysia Colocation, Amsterdam Colocation and Thailand Colocation

Singapore Colocation, Philippines Colocation, Malaysia Colocation, Amsterdam Colocation and Thailand Colocation – 8 to Infinity is pleased to announce that we are able to offer them all.

Colocation Rack Space in Singapore and Asia.

Colocation rack space was at its shortest supply the last few months when we could not even squeeze out a single U of rack space as all our datacenters are full. We had worked very hard with our existing providers to extend new space as well as improve upon existing colocation facilities. As a result, 8 to Infininity is extremely pleased to announce its ability to fulfill even 200 racks of space with high density power requirements. We are able to supply each rack with 16A x 2 230 V Power Supply. More unique configuration can be arrange with our engineers.

In addition, we have made available a few smaller suites for customers who wanted their data center suites. We are pleased to be able to provide basic shared hosting to the most advanced and complicated Internet facilities setup. Do email us at sales@8.to for any requirements. We have also worked hard to setup racks in Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines to make us a truly Asian Web Hosting Company!

Red Hat revenue hits $1.13 Billion in 2011

This is really good news for advocates of open source. Redhat is one of the primary drivers of open source. It is glad that they are having a great year. Not saying that Microsoft of Apple is bad. Just that it is important to have choices for consumers and Red Hat provides such a choice. In addition, Red Hat funding and support for the open source industry opens up more choices for consumers – You and Me. Thank you Red Hat, once again!

Helping an Ex Customer

We had an Ex Customer who came to us for help. His company left us for another web hosting company. They transferred their hosting and domain to that company and it just disappeared. We tried our best but we could not get anything back for him. He lost domain, web site and everything and had to redo everything from scratch, quite a painful experience for him.

Tier 4 Datacenter

It is not easy to setup a Tier 4 Datacenter. The costs can be prohibitive because of the requirements. Tier 1 level Datacenter needs only to have single non-redundant distribution path serving the IT equipment. It also does not need to have non redundant capacity and only needs to fulfill basic site availability of 99.671%. I Tier 2 must fulfill all Tier 1 requirements and in addition have an availability of 99.741%. A Tier 3 must satisfy Tier 1 and 2 requirements and in addition needs to have multiple distribution paths serving the equipment and with dull power redundancy with an availability of 99.982%. The Tier 4 is the hardest to achieve and most stringent, having to achieve both Tier 1, 2 and 3 requirements and in addition the cooling equipment needs to be independently powered with fault tolerance up to 99.995%.

Do you know what is 99.995% availability looks like? It means that you cannot have more than 26 minutes of downtime per year! You can imagine basically everything single component needs to be sync and in proper maintenance and to have redundancy in order to achieve such availability. The most difficult part that I feel in setting up a Tier 4 datacenter in Singapore is where to find two power grid independently for the cooling systems. To be able to build such in Singapore requires a lot of planning and cash rich. Not just cash rich, having an extremely capable technical leader and a great team. Waiting to see the Tier 4 datacenter in Singapore!

Web Designer Missing

We had a domain registration customer who called us up for help on Friday. Reason being her web site was suspended and the designer missing. The web hosting was not done by us and we were not being able to get more information from her. What we could do then was rush up a web site for her new web designer to upload. She had to pay for a newly designed web site, not to mentioned the costs due to the downtime. One advice for all customers do keep your web site data securely and do know who you are hosting with. It is sometimes not good to have the same web domain registrar, web hosting and web designer. If they are gone, everything is gone. It is fortunate that being her registrar we still could do something for her.

FTP Security

We had a customer who insisted on using anonymous login to login to her FTP account rather than her standard username and password. No matter how we tried to explain the dangers of anonymous logins, she refused to change to standard logins. We do not have a choice but continue to stop anonymous logins as it can pose a security risk to all. Who says “Customers are always right?”, sometimes we need to stop customers from endangering themselves and endangering others.

Support Email for Singapore Web Hosting

We have customers sending to our Billing department when they had support issues and end up complaining that the response was slow. One issue is Billing department is a separate department that does not require immediate response, therefore when our accounts found the emails, they will then forward to our support. This cause time delays. It may be easy when you receive an invoice from our Accounts and click reply to send in your support problems. But it isn’t going to be time effective. The contact send to would be support@8.to or to our Support Department using our Help Desk.

Free Email Spam

The free email that one of my friend subscribes to was blasting everyone with spam scams. From what I heard from him, this wasn’t the first time. I guess two ways to protect. One is to ensure that the password is complicated enough. The other is to ensure that the computer you are using to check emails are protected, patched and installed with anti virus and anti malware.

Don’t Post when you are Angry

We had received a request for help from one of our web hosting customers. It wasn’t really related to web hosting but I think it is well worth to share. This customer posted on a forum when he was angry and now he knew that what he had posted was very rude but could not contact the forum owners and so was asking us if we could try to help contact the owners to had it removed? In an age of Facebook, Blogs, Twitters etc, it is extremely convenient to post anything anytime. But because of this convenience, there is the danger of posting something you will regret later on. For this case we managed to contact the forum owner who helped the removal. But what was removed may not be totally removed as there are bound to be archive sites etc. Our advice on Monday is if you are angry or suffering from Monday Blues, do not post, or you may be posting the greatest post of your life that you will be regretting.

Singapore Domain Name Expiry

Singapore Domain name Com.sg expires at exactly 0000 hours of that day. Therefore you need to renew earlier so as to ensure that your domain name will not expiry before you renew. Domain name is a crucial part of your web hosting package. If domain name expires, your web site and email accounts are not usable. It is also not good for your corporate image. It is the responsible of the customers to keep us updated in their admin postal addresses and email addresses so that we can send renewal invoices and notices to inform them. It is also a good practice to keep track of your own domain expiry date and to request for renewal before the due date. There had been some changes of popular web sites that had forgotten to renew their domain names and hence being down. Do not let such incidents happen to you! Renew in Advance!
