Singapore Web Host

Being a Singapore Web Host is an extremely tough job even in an economic boom, not saying the situation now where a deep recession is taking root. Why is it so? The barrier to entry is too low. Previously you will need to have knowledge of the Linux or Windows IIS software. But now given the widespread usage and low costs of controlpanel. Anyone or rather everyone can be a Web Host. What is so bad about that? Competition is healthy isn’t it? Not necessary, competition based on price cutting and overselling hurts everyone. Have seen so many web hosts going down every year and more web hosts coming up. The attrition rate is extremely high. Given that we still need to compete against Web Hosts in USA gives additional price lowering pressures. Really hope that new Singapore Web Hosts will do their sum first before plunging into this field. It isn’t an easy field. Due to that some customers are already asking us for unlimited space, we basically have to tell them, maybe try visiting Sim Lim Square, look for an unlimited hard disk. If you can find it, we will give it to you. This is common sense, nothing in this world is unlimited. Some customers keep asking why, our answer is nothing is unlimited, if some other hosting company can offer, maybe you can just download your entire hard disk of say 500 GB for testing first to see if their offer still stand.

We have budding hosting companies coming to us for advice. For them their concept is get as huge a hard disk as possible. 1 TB? Their calculations are if it is 1 TB, they can easily host 1000 1 GB account. Is it true? Depends on your I/O, I would say a normal SATA can’t really take more than 100 GB content, not to say 1 TB. For faster and more capacity, you need to do say a Raid 6 with a good Raid card and tons of SaS or SCSI drives. Do remember however that a good Raid card can easily cost more than a normal server and SaS or SCSI drives capacity are much smaller and cost many times more than normal SATA! These aren’t unlimited in every sense of the word. Lots of hosting companies argued that they have SANs and are able to just add in hard disks if their capacity is full. Just curious, how many slots can a normal SANs have? These aren’t unlimited certainly and they cost a bomb. You can sell these for the peanuts that you can get for normal web hosting. I guess it will take 100 years for you to recover the costs.
