Received a call yesterday, the caller insisted on speaking to me rather than my staff. An extremely haughty voice at the other end asking for our services. I told him about what we can offer.
His next request, asking us to go down his office to do a presentation on why we are good and why we should be chosen and what is our advantages over the rest of our competitors. I told him we can tell him about our advantages and our core strengths but I will not comment on our competitors.
He then told me that one of the competitor told him some nasty things about us. I reiterated our stance and told him we do not comment on our competitors. He slam down the phone in a spit of anger.
Being in the same industry, I called up the competitor and asked about the comments, the competitor was absolute that none of such comments came from them. We were more or less on friendly terms despite being competitors and I am more inclined to believe him. I feel that clients wise, they should not expect or try to ignite a fight and a price war between the providers, this is not the correct way of doing business. I am also glad that the potential client left.
