We had seen several cases of customers who were more than lenient with their directory permissions allowing too much freedom for write permissions which allow spammers to inject files into their particular directories.

Unlike previous hackers who are more than willing to show their works of defacement, such spammers are just out to make money by injecting scripts to make use of your web sites to spam. Such scripts are extremely difficult to detect due to the nature of injection and also that they are encrypted making normal searching of spamming scripts even harder. Spammers and hackers are getting smarter and smarter. The networks are getting faster. It is a great worry that a lot of customers still have next to zero sense of security. I guess education and awareness is extremely necessary to make Singapore a really IT savvy and IT Safe Nation. We may have the fastest connection for citizens, but if they are being exploited by hackers and spammers, they will bring the downfall of our reputation as well as business as Singapore becomes a Capital of Spams and Hackers, something we should not allow to happen.
