Blocking of Port 25 by Malaysian ISPs

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

I have had several enquiries that some of Malaysia’s ISPs are blocking their ports especially port 25.   This will cause all users who have setup email servers in the Malaysia’s ISPs to have problems sending out.   Also those users using other providers’ SMTP will be blocked.

I can understand why the Malaysian ISPs did that.  Spams was reaching crazy levels, too many personal computers were attacked and turned to trojan spam machines.   This in turn caused a lot of Malaysian IPs to be blocked.  By taking this drastic measures it will help curtail the spam issues.  One big problem however is the inconvenience of users who are using other SMTPs.   It seemed that they will have to use the Malaysian ISP’s SMTP which is surely unblock for the users.

For this who had faced this problem, call up your ISP and enquire them about what to put for the Outgoing SMTP server.   Put this in and it should be ok.
