Collecting of Singapore Web Hosting Payment – $100

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Well, we have one client who owe us a tiny bit of money. Typically our invoices was send via email in PDF format and physically via post. The client claimed that they did pay for the invoices and that the payment was already cleared. We check our records no such payment. The customer requested that we helped her renew the domain and hosting first and they will check on their end. If the cheque had not clear, they will issue another within a week.

Sounds nice, except that two months later, not a single cent was received, we called up and they started haggled saying the maximum they are willing to pay is $75 out of $100. We highlighted the emails that they bad send saying the cheques was cleared and so on, but they conveniently ignored these. I do understand that a deep recession is on, but cant we have ethics than these? It is only $100, to ruin their reputation over $100 is amazing and distressing.

Trust in business is of utmost important, it is earned through years of dealing with your suppliers and customers and it is built up bit by bit. Such trust can be destroyed in a single moment. Once destroyed to build up the trust back takes far more efforts than the initial times. In good or bad economy we must never lose our long term focus. Do not succumb to short term gains and ignore your reputation and trust which can serve you for decades to come.
