Launch of Firefox 3.0
Wednesday, June 18th, 2008As a long time web hosting company, we see the rise and fall of a great number of companies. One type of companies that are particularly interesting are that of web browsers companies.
I guess the first web browser that is predominant was Netscape. I had been using Netscape 1.0b right from the beginning. It fell to the assault of Microsoft Internet Explorer. Netscape died and from its ashes Mozilla was formed and is growing from strength to strength.
For a period we saw the predominance of Microsoft Internet Explorer. But it seemed that Firefox is rapidly catching up. The latest launch of Firefox 3.0 today which hoped to break the most downloaded software World’s Record seemed quite successful. My last visit saw a million pledges, I am one of them.
Just download Firefox 3.0, I must say it did not disappoint. It is fast and maintain the look and feel of the previous Firefox versions. The speed is instantaneously felt though I am still exploring its various features.
Looking at the trend, Firefox is rapidly encroaching on the share of Internet Explorer. It would be interesting to see what will Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 do to counter this threat.
